"The "scientific consensus" that Al Gore and his fellow global warming alarmists rely upon to force radical changes in how Americans live and work is being unraveled by Mother Nature. In addition to the recent freak snowstorms in Malibu, Calif., New Orleans and Las Vegas, Arctic ice is expanding this year -- not shrinking -- and there were 115 record-low temperatures reported in the United States in October, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Despite rising carbon dioxide levels, the Earth has actually been cooling -- not warming -- since 1998, when the warming trend peaked in conjunction with heightened sunspot activity.
It appears that 2008, the National Climatic Data Center now says, will go down as the coldest year in a decade.
"For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?" asked David Gee, chairman of the 2008 International Geological Congress' science committee."

"Big Fix?
A renowned environmental consultant says the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has been cooking the books on global warming. Former University of Winnipeg Climatology Professor Dr. Tim Ball writes in the Canada Free Press, "The only place where CO2 is causing temperature increase is in the IPCC computer models."
He says the IPCC has a habit of releasing computer model summaries before climate studies are even completed. He says by doing this, "The summary gets maximum media attention and becomes the public understanding of what the scientists said... they create an appearance of certainty about a human cause of [global] warming."
Adding, "The computer models themselves are completely inadequate to represent global climate... but don't believe me. The IPCC technical report released in 2007, says so

Send A Card to Our Troops
I did the link only took a few seconds
Hi All! This is a great way to say “thanks” to our troops overseas. Please take the time to send a card to a soldier.
XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL
If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services. How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them. This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. Please take the time and please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank you's. Thanks for taking the time to support our military!

Deflation, Inflation?
Recently there has been talk in the media about the dangers of deflation in the coming environment. But the electronics and computer industry have been facing deflationary pressures since its inception.
What should the correct level of inflation/deflation. I always assumed a 1-2% inflation rate would be best. But in fact is a very difficult topic. Money is in essence a substitute for work. We exchange our labor for money. Is the value of the labor of the person making your sandwich worth any more yesterday, today, or tomorrow. In some sense the value disappears once the sandwich is eaten. But what is the value of the laborer who built the Roman roads and bridges that last a thousand years?
The news media says the problem with deflation is that it causes people to delay purchases because they can a better deal later on. Eventually causing a slow down of the economy as more and more people delay purchasing things. But the computer industry has faced this pressure, as each year newer items are both better and cheaper. The news media forgets that there is a utility in possessing an object now. The question for the consumer is the utility of possessing the object now worth the possible savings that can be achieved in future.
Of course the savings of a deflationary environment for the consumer may be offset by the lost of wages by the worker and the lost of interest revenue by the saver. Deflation favors the worker who saves in the past, inflation favors the worker of the future.

"There are more than 1,000 seed banks — including a newly opened, unmanned "doomsday" facility in the Arctic wastes of Norway that will ultimately house more than 1 billion crop seeds. But the one at Wakehurst Place, about 30 miles south of London, says it's the only global facility of its kind, unique for its focus on wild species, not just crops."

On the Poor
A continuation of a discussion started in http://commonsensejoe.blogspot.com/2008/12/global-warming-cap-and-trade.html
"
MsAnthrope has left a new comment on your post "Global Warming: Cap and Trade":
Native American's have a saying " Do not judge a man until walked a mile in his moccasins." So until you have worked two jobs just to barely eat, keep a roof over your child's head, and shoes (NOT $100 sneakers but corrective shoes for a birth defect) on their feet then don't tell me about what the poor should do.
"
There are many types of poor. Some are temporary due to unfortunate circumstance. Some because they do not plan ahead. How many people live on credit cards and pay-check to pay-check, yet still take an expensive vacation every year? Or bought houses bigger than their needs?
I applaud than man who has two jobs to take care of his needs. That is the type of person who should be benefiting from government programs as food-stamps He may be benefiting from medicaid. But if he earns too much, his medicaid is withdrawn, making it impossible to improve his and his family condition.. If they government allowed him to earn more with a gradual reductions of benefits, both him and society would be better.
There was a case of a New England state, where women would take home work to earn extra income. They were paid on a piece basis. They could work on their own time, between watching the children and doing chores. But the government calculated that the were being paid less than the minimum wage. So they prevented the women from doing this work, thus depriving women of extra income with no option to replace that income.

Global Warming Update: More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims

"
Without a Doubt
Despite last year's United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change declaration that climate change was "unequivocal, is already happening, and is caused by human activity," not all experts are convinced.
More than 650 international scientists are disputing those claims in a newly updated U.S. Senate Minority Report. It adds about 250 scientists to the 400 who spoke out last year — and includes current and former U.N. climate panel members.
Atmospheric Scientist Joanne Simpson writes, "Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical."
U.S. Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley Goldenberg says, "It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don't buy into anthropogenic,” that is man-made ‘global warming."
And from Nobel Prize Winner in physics Ivan Giaever — "global warming has become a new religion.""

"Last week, a report by the New York Times charged that Rangel had helped bury a Senate proposal that would have raised taxes on a businessman who had pledged a $1 million donation to the City College center." The building would be named after Rangel.
" The Times piece described a Feb. 12, 2007, meeting at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City. It said Nabors Industries Ltd. (NBR) Chief Executive Eugene Isenberg, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau and Rangel discussed Isenberg's financial support for the City College center.
According to the Times, Rangel and Isenberg then moved across the room where they discussed with Kenneth J. Kies, a lobbyist for Nabors, Rangel's opposition to a Senate proposal that would raise taxes on Nabors. "

Global Warming: Cap and Trade
To me this seems like a bad idea. It either rewards past bad polluters or punishes industries that depend on coal. Why should the relatively poor pay higher electricity rates because someone believes C02 is bad? So here is your chance to propose a fair system for cap and trade.

Global Warming Update: Animal Pollution to be Taxed by EPA
EPA to Tax Farts and Belches of Cows and Pigs!
"The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in it's infinite wisdom are protecting you from my cows' fart and belch sessions. Yes, its true. In an effort to keep the natural animal gas, via fart and belch, called methane in check, the EPA is going to tax me. The Supreme Court has declared that a fart and/or belch from a dairy cow or beef cow or pig contributes to air pollution. Naturally the EPA finds this a "taxing" situation!
The proposed EPA fees (taxes) on a dairy cow will be $175.00. Taxes on a beef cow will be $87.50 and taxes on a pig will be $20.00. These taxes are per head. If you have 20 pigs you will be paying a fart and/or belch tax of $400.00. How many livestock farmers do think can last with this proposed EPA tax? Not many, if any, is the answer."

Saudi Oil: 60 Minutes
60 Minutes had a nice two-piece on the Saudis effort to extract oil from the desert. It will allow them to produce an extra two million barrels of oil a day for the next 50 years. They will be using sea-water to push the oil to the surface.
Fleeting thought: Will this offset the amount of sea-rise due to global warming? Will the water and salt/oil separate over time, eventually providing a massive oasis in the desert?

Happy Thanksgiving
from Nancy:
John received a parrot as an early Christmas gift.
The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.
Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.
John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the birds vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back.
John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and shoved him in the freezer.
For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.
Then suddenly there was total quiet.
Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the freezer door.
The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arm and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I am sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do anything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior"
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued...
...."May I inquire as to what the turkey did?"

Campaign donations
48% of Obama's campaign donations came from donors of $1,000 or more, compared with 56% for John Kerry and 60% for Bush and McCain. Obama campaign said the campaign had 3.95 million donors and 91% where contributions of $100 or less. The difference is that many people gave numerous small donations.

PRUDEN: The killer frost for global warming
"So far the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports 63 record snowfalls in the United States, 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month. Only 44 Octobers over the past 114 years have been cooler than this last one."
"The polar ice is accumulating faster than usual, and some of the experts now concede that the globe hasn't warmed since 1995"
"Only last month Dr. Hansen's institute announced that October was the hottest on record, and then said "uh, never mind." The London Daily Telegraph calls this "a surreal blunder [that] raised a huge question mark about the temperature records that underpin the worldwide alarm over global warming.""

Three Men on a Hike
Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large raging, violent river. Needing to get to the other side, the first man prayed:
'God, please give me the strength to cross the river.'
Poof! ... God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.
After witnessing that, the second man prayed: 'God, please give me strength and the tools to cross the river' Poof! ... God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs and he was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.
Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed: 'God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross the river' Poof! .. He was turned into a woman. She checked the map, hiked one hundred yards up stream and walked across the bridge.

My Proposal for the Auto Industry
Limit the combined salary and benefits for everyone in the company to six times the minimum wage until the government loan is paid back. After the loan is paid back, the company can then pay the forgone wages.

A married couple was in a terrible accident where the Man's face was severely burned. The doctor told the husband that they couldn't graft any skin from his body because he was too skinny.
So the wife offered to donate some of her own skin. However, the only skin on her body that the doctor felt was suitable would have to come fr om her buttocks. The husband and wife agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and they requested that the doctor also honor their secret. After All, this was a very delicate matter.
After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the man's new face. He looked more handsome than he ever had before! All his friends and relatives just went on and on about his youthful beauty!
One day, he was alone with his wife, and he was overcome with emotion at her sacrifice. He said, 'Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me.
How can I possibly repay you?' 'My darling,' she replied, 'I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheek.'

Interesting Side Notes on the Election
People voting for tax cuts.
More people believed that they would benefit more from Obama's tax cuts than McCain. Bush I lost to Clinton because he raised taxes and Clinton promised a middle class tax cut. Since Reagan it appears that the candidate the proposes the most tax cuts wins.
People appear to be voting against military service.
Obama - None, McCain - Vietnam Vet
Bush II - National Guard - Kerry -Vietnam Vet
Bush II - National Guard - Gore - Army Vietnam
Clinton - Dodge Draft - Dole - WWII Vet

Is Hell exothermic or endothermic?
Found on the net:
The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.
As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell.
With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, " it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you", and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.
The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore extinct. . .leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a Divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

The Obama Election
Well, the tabla-rosa that is Obama has been elected. Let us hope for the best for the U.S. for the next two years.
The good news for the Republicans is that appear to keep control of the filibuster.
As the liberals take complete control of government it will be interesting to watch. Clinton was a moderate Democrat with a Republican congress. Carter had to deal with conservative democrats from the South.
It will be interesting how Obama and Democrats will deal with the war on terrorism. Will Obama go into Pakistan (without permission) like he said he would or will he just pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Will the Bush derangement syndrome end or will they still blame everything on him for the next eight years?
Good things about an Obama Election
First, public financing is dead. No one will accept public financing again.
Possibly, affirmative-action will expire and the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will disappear.
Bad Things:
Earmark reform is dead. Expect even more money spent on "special" projects.
Protecting the border is dead. But then again, more cheaper labor for farms.
Things to watch out for.
(1) Secret ballot for unions eliminated.
(2) Silencing of critics on the radio, through an "equal-balance" law.

The Alaska Personnel Board report, issued on the eve of the U.S. presidential election, ran contrary to findings from a legislative inquiry that concluded in October that Palin had abused the power of her office by pressuring subordinates to fire a state trooper involved in a feud with her family."

Product Endorsement - Shark SuperSteamer.
I am not one to buy things advertised in infomercials, but after checking some reviews, I decided to buy a Shark SuperSteamer. The local hardware store was having a 25% off sale, so I paid about $34. It is about the size of a tea kettle. You place about a cup of water into it (they supply a measuring cup with a max line and a funnel). It has an extra long cord, with a 3-prong plug. After about 5 minutes it is ready to use. The longer it is plugged in the more pressure that is built up. I tried it on a few tough spots in the shower. After a few seconds the grout looked like it was new. I haven't used any of the attachments yet. It comes with a hose so you can get at difficult spots. The power spray also allows you to get at difficult spots.
I found it best to spray a 3 to 8 inch line, then wipe with a clean towel. Once the pressure decrease after use, it takes a minute or two to build up pressure. On a big job, I would suggest to have two task going. Spray and clean til the pressure decrease, then do something else for 5 minutes or so, then when you come back you should have good pressure. At the water goes down, it will take a little longer to build up pressure. When you need to refill it water you need to unplug it and wait fiver minutes. Release any remaining steam before opening the top. If it is still hot, the water turn to steam instantly, so make sure it is cooled down. When you are ready to add water, try just adding a drop or two to make sure it doesn't turn to steam.
Because it only uses tap water, it will probably save you money in the long run as you cut down the amount of other cleaners you need to use.

Did Obama Just Lose the Election?
Ohio and Pennsylvania are huge coal markets. Coal produces most of our electricity. Bankrupting coal plants means higher energy costs. So do you think this might have an effect on the election?
Obama: "So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted."
link
link
Update:
Well, ABC and NBC Nightly News ignored it. So it probably will not make a difference.

"We have done everything that has been asks of us under the FCC guidelines." Obama.
What he doesn't say, is that, although used by Clinton and McCain, he doesn't check to see that name of his donor matches the address. What he doesn't say is that money can be funneled into his campaign from illegal donors. He hasn't listed the name all the donors, just the ones required by the FCC. He doesn't tell you that some can get buy a debit card with cash, thus skating the total limit a person can donate to his campaign.

Obama: "one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendancy to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that."

Why Oil is going lower.
Many countries, like Russia, have borrowed to fuel their growth. They now need to sell oil to service that debt. Not being able to refinance is forcing those countries to sell oil at any price.
Poll Result: Taxes and Fairness
Is it better to:
Lower taxes to achieve more money 71%, (5-2)
Raise taxes to achieve "fairness" 28%
Well I guess there is still a lot (28%) of envy out there.

Lorne Michaels on Palin:
"I think Palin will continue to be underestimated for a while. I watched the way she connected with people, and she's powerful. Her politics aren't my politics. But you can see that she's a very powerful, very disciplined, incredibly gracious woman. This was her first time out and she's had a huge impact. People connect to her."

Palin - CNN
National Review
"Editor’s note: Byron York’s recent article in National Review on Sarah Palin’s time as governor of Alaska became a campaign issue Tuesday when CNN’s Drew Griffin distorted its meaning in a high-profile interview with Palin. CNN’s problems aside, what was the story really about? And what did it say about Palin's readiness for office? Now, for the first time, York’s article is available on the web."

Greed -The falling economy.
As we approach a world-wide recession let us not forget that is was caused be greed. From the Chinese toys and milk producers who destroyed their industries trying to make a few more cents. To the Florida condo investors, buying to flip and not to own. From the executives of Country Wide and all the other banks who sold/bought home loans without evaluating the properties or the owners. To the millions of consumers who buy everything on credit. To the OPEC nations which allowed oil to go to $140 a barrel.
Relatively cheap energy is the foundation of the modern economy. When the OPEC nations allowed the price to skyrocket pass $80 a barrel they were setting up the world economy for a fall. Although they made money from their oil in the short run, they are now losing more in the asset values of the stocks they bought with the oil money. Like Matha Stewart, who saved a few thousand from insider-trading but lost millions, the OPEC nations are now experiencing the results of their short-term thinking.

Good Times Ahead?
The euro is trading at $1.28, close to what the original mark was supposed to be at $1.18. Oil is under $67. Gold is down to $725 an ounce. In times of trouble to world comes to the U.S. The stock market is falling, but the volume is around 1 billion versus 3 billion shares traded daily. The Dow is 8500, fire sale prices for those who can wait 5 to 10 years.

Good and Evil, Part 4 - The nature of reality.
The term God is shorthand for the "first cause", God or Gods that create and control the universe.
It is possible we live in the universe of the spaghetti monster, the Matrix, or a Star Trek holodeck. If this is so, then all our observations and reasoning is base on faulty data. Thus there would be no further discussion. We would be limited to "sacred scriptures" or the words of the holy men. We would be, in effect, no better off than a insane person who cannot trust what appears to be the reality around him.
I prefer to think that if there is a God, he isn't lying to us. For if he is lying to us, then even the words of holy men and "sacred scriptures" cannot be trusted.
There either exists a God or doesn't. It is possible there is no God. But this can never be proven. The existence of God can be proven if he decides to make himself known to us. But a universe in which God is not interested in human affairs would appear the same as one in which there is no God.
Why is God important? Because some people in an existence of some sort of life after death. And they believe that how they live their lives will effect their status after death.
What is the point? To try to find a common basis for good and evil. One that doesn't matter if you pray to God five times a day, once a week or never.

Good and Evil Part 3, Perspective II
The current scientific estimate is that all life on earth will end in a billion years. There is nothing that can be done. So no matter what you do it will all eventually end. Those who wish to "save the earth" are only doing so for a short time, in relative terms.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun
"In fact, even during its life in the main sequence, the Sun is gradually becoming more luminous (about 10% every 1 billion years), and its surface temperature is slowly rising. The increase in solar temperatures is such that in about a billion years, the surface of the Earth will become too hot for liquid water to exist, ending all terrestrial life.["
Of course, we all have a shorter timeline, i.e. until our own deaths. Some believe they can achieve partial immortality by having children. For those who acknowledge evolution, a million years from now mankind descendant's, if they survive, will have changed, possibly into multiple branches. And possibly none representing anything they exists today.
The shape of the earth is changing, the continents are drifting. In one theory the fertile crescent region may have turned in deserts over the last 10,000 years because the Indian subcontinent smashing into Asia. The additional heights of the mountains may have shifted wind patterns.
The most recent ice age peaked 20,000 years ago ending about 10,000 years ago. This global warming took place without man's significant contributions.
Then there are things like the Yellowstone caldera. This super volcano last erupted 640,000 years ago. Its previous eruption was 1.3 millions years ago. So it could erupt in the next 100,000 years, destroying most of life in the western United States.

Good and Evil Part 2, Perspective
There are an estimated 10 billion billion stars. If only one out of Billion stars had a plant where life exists, that leaves 10 billion planets with life. To assume the earth is the only one that developed intelligent life seems highly improbable. But even if we assume that, Life has existed approximately 3.7 billion years. Evolutionists believe that homo sapiens appeared less than 500,000 years ago (250K-400K). Modern humans appeared less than 100,000 years ago. Written history is less than 10,000 years old (approx 6,000). But even if way say man in the pinnacle of creation, what is the correct religion? Are the oldest more important than the newest? Does the numbers of followers matter? Can there be more than one correct religion, even if they contradict each other?
Lets assume there is a correct religion, i.e. one that has all the correct answers. The one with most members is Christianity. At approximately 2.1 billion members it is less than one third of the population. So most of the world is following a religion that is not correct in all things. But even Christians cannot agree on all things.
So what does this mean? To me this means we all should have some humility when we think we know what God would want.

Chile cook-off
I received this in an email. Warning: Salty Language.
> If you can read this whole story without laughing, then there's no hope for you. I was crying by the end. This is an actual account as relayed to paramedics at a chile cook-off in New Mexico.
>
> Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better.
>
> For those of you who have lived in New Mexico , you know how true this is. They actually have a Chile Cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the Santa Fe Plaza . Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chile taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield , IL .
>
> +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
>
> Frank: 'Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chile cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table, asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native New Mexicans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge 3.'
>
> Here are the scorecard notes from the event:
>
> CHILE # 1 - MIKE'S MANIAC MONSTER CHILE
> Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
> Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
> Judge # 3 (Frank) -- Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These New Mexicans are crazy.
>
> CHILE # 2 - EL RANCHO'S AFTERBURNER CHILE
> Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
> Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.
> Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.
>
> CHILE # 3 - ALFREDO'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILE
> Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chile. Great kick.
> Judge # 2 -- A bit salty, good use of peppers.
> Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting sh*t-faced from all of the beer.
>
> CHILI # 4 - BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC
> Judge # 1 -- Black bean chile with almost no spice. Disappointing.
> Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chile.
>
> Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. woman is starting to look HOT .. just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chile an aphrodisiac?
>
> CHILE # 5 - LISA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER
> Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chile. Jalapeno peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
> Judge # 2 -- Chile using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the jalapeno peppers make a strong statement.
> Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chile had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw them.
>
> CHILE # 6 - VARGA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY
> Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bol d vegetarian variety chile. Good balance of spices and peppers.
> Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, garlic. Superb.
> Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I'm worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone.
>
> CHILE # 7 - SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI
> Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chile with too much reliance on canned peppers.
> Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chile peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about judge number 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.
> Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chile, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing. It's too painful. Screw it; I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.
>
> CHILE # 8 - BIG TOM'S TOENAIL CURLING CHILE
> Judge # 1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chile. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
> Judge # 2 -- This final entry is a good, balanced chile. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chile pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make it. Poor feller, wonder how he'd have reacted to really hot chile?
> Judge # 3 - No Report

>
>

Joe the Plumber
How come the Democratic machine and the main stream media can find out more about "Joe the Plumber" in a couple of days then the could in two years about Obama?
And why does the Obama campaign feel the need to trash "Joe". Is it a diversion to obscure the fact the Obama wishes to "Share the Wealth"?

Could cheap oil threaten the stability of Iran and Venezuela

It was reported in the news lately that Venezuela was looking for a billion dollar loan to upgrade its oil producing facilities. Is this a start to the downfall of socialism in Venezuela?

McCain On Letterman
CBS adds an ad before the segment.
Two points:
Ayers wife is a bigger terrorist. So the plural is correct.
Letterman doesn't listen.

Al Smith Dinner
Nice to see both candidates have a sense of humor.
McCain's Remarks
Part 2

Obama Remarks
Lunch with "Michelle Obama"
"Michelle Obama ordered lobster apps, two whole steamed lobsters, Iranian caviar, and Champagne at the Waldorf Wednesday afternoon when she was there with O for a meeting"
The right is trying to say this is "elitist". I think bringing ths up is mistake. Then again, the left tried to make a thing about how many houses and cars the McCains owns.

"When John Kerry, John Edwards and their wives descended on a Newburgh, New York, Wendys on Friday for a 'lite" lunch with the common people, it was all just a photo op.
Team Kerry Edwards had already ordered their real lunches - consisting of five star gourmet food from a tony local restaurant - with instructions to have the haute cuisine ready for pick-up after the top Democrats ditched Wendy's.
"A member of the Kerry advance team called Nikola’s Restaurant at the Newburgh Yacht Club the night before and ordered 19 five-star lunches to go that would be picked up at noon Friday," MidHudsonNews.com reported on Sunday.
"Management at the restaurant, which is operated by CIA graduate chef Michael Dederick, was told the meals would be for the Kerry and Edwards families and actor Ben Affleck who was with them on the tour."
After tossing out their cheeseburgers and chili, Kerry and Edwards feasted on shrimp vindallo, grilled diver sea scallops, prosciutto, wrapped stuffed chicken, and steak salad.
The meals came to about $200, MidHudson News said."

Good and Evil, Part I.
This is the first on what I hope will be a series of thoughts on the nature of good and evil, religion and its effect on politics.
My thoughts wander on the basis of good and evil. Many believe in the "scriptures" of their religion or in the speeches of their spiritual leaders. I wish to take it down to a more elemental level.
Actions can be described as neutral, good, and evil. Sleeping is an an example of a neutral act. It may benefit their person, but doesn't effect others positively or negatively. Arson is an evil act. I have yet to discover a society that doesn't think arson should be a crime. An evil act is one that negatively effects another person. A good act would be one that benefits another without any material benefit to oneself. All good acts should give at least some psychological benefit to the one performing the act. Buying something at the store is a neutral event, it benefits both the purchaser and seller.
Many of societies problems come from people believing in "scriptures" and not analyzing the good or evil of the deed.
Take the Ten Commandments, which some believe should be the foundation of our laws. It contains proscriptions that would hard to enforce in mixed societies, like keeping the Sabbath holy and "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery Do not have any other gods before me." This has always been strange to me. If there was only one god, then all god worship would by default be worshipping that god. What it is in effect saying is that all other religions are wrong. Not very good for a pluralistic society.
Many religions/societies believe that "outsiders" do not deserve the same rights as though who "belong". This allows or even requires them to do "evil" acts to others.

More Media Bias
Joe "the plumber" ask Obama about how his taxes would be increased if he bought a business. Obama made an unfortunate comment sharing his philosophy about "sharing the wealth". Well this hasn't gone down well with some of the public. So now the media is digging up dirt on "Joe". That he hasn't achieved his plumber licence and that he had a tax lien in the past. Just shows you have to be careful getting in front of the liberal media steamroller.
By the way, it appears a reporter was mistaken when he thought he heard someone shot "kill him" at a Palin rally.
A senior Secret Service agent said allegations that a man yelled 'kill him" when Barack Obama's name was referenced Tuesday during a Sarah Palin rally are "unfounded," reports the Timesleader.com, a Northeastern Pennsylvania news agency.
Agent Bill Slavoski -- who was standing in the audience along with other Secret Service agents during the rally in Scranton, Pa. -- said neither he nor the other officers heard the comment, according to the report published Thursday.
"said he could not find anyone other than the Scranton Times-Tribune's reporter to corroborate the story."

Wisdom of the Crowd - Poll Results
Though our sample is small, the crowd wisdom is that Obama needs a lead of 4-5% in the polls. Using Real Clear Politics, this gives Obama a 286 to 252 win. If you add a 3% margin of error, the race is still a toss up.
New Poll Question
Obama said he would raise the capital gain tax even if it brings in less overall revenue because it would fair. Do you think it is better for the government to maximize revenue or to achieve social fairness?

McCain says would eliminate ethanol tariff

Eliminating the ethanol tariff is a good idea. It keeps gasoline prices high. It encourages the use of corn for fuel, which increases food prices. Not only are corn prices higher, so is the price of everything that eats corn, like chicken and hogs.

The end of Social Security as an insurance program..
With the earned income tax credit, the poor with children already are not paying their full share in the "insurance" program. With an additional $500 tax credit that Obama proposes, the low-income people will not be supporting the social security at all. Also the Democrats want to increase (if not eliminate) the ceiling on the amount of earnings subject to Social Security taxes, without an increase in benefits. Thus, Social Security becomes a welfare program and not an insurance program.

Things to look forward to under Obama.
McCain has given up.
What you can look forward to.
The secret ballot for union members will disappear.
$1000 rebate to families paid for through oil company profits. Four years of non-investment by the oil companies. Higher gasoline prices when the economy recovers.
$25 billion in extra taxes to pay for State Growth plan. To pay for home heating for the poor and housing assistance.
$25 billion in extra taxes to pay for Job Growth plan. To repair bridges, roads and schools.
$500 per worker tax credit.
$4000 tax credit for college. Recipients are required to give 100 hours of community service. Basically paying $40 an hour for community service. Include a 10% income tax rate and 8% Social Security tax, that is basically a $50 an hour job.
$1500 for Child Care for one child $3000 for two. .
Seniors making $50K would not pay taxes. With an average savings of $1400. Multiply by 7 million seniors = $9.8 Billion per year tax loss.
10 million mortgage owners will get a $500 tax credit. Cost $5 billion per year.
$150 Billion over ten years invested in green energy projects.
$60 Billion additional over ten years for security in transportation.
Additional Health Care Costs - Amount unknown.
$500 match of retirement savings for families earning less than $75,000.

Palin Inquiry
"The report continues, “In light of this constitutional and statutory authority, it is clear that Governor Palin could fire Commissioner Walt Monegan at will, for almost any reason, or no reason at all.”"
"After months of “repeatedly ignoring the governor’s budget priorities, making public statements that directly challenged the governor’s policy agenda and taking numerous unilateral actions in conflict with the governor in support of his own policy agenda, his replacement in July 2008 should have come as no surprise,” that report said."

Farrakhan on Obama
"Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, another powerful Chicago-based political figure associated with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and other long-time associates of Democratic Party presidential candidate Barack Obama, is leaving no doubt about what he thinks of the leader in the campaign for the White House.
He says when Obama talks "the Messiah is absolutely speaking."
""You are the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth. And he has involved young people in a political process that they didn't care anything about. That's a sign. When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking.""

"An analysis of campaign finance records by The New York Times this week found nearly 3,000 donations to Mr. Obama, the Democratic nominee, from more than a dozen people with apparently fictitious donor information. The contributions represent a tiny fraction of the record $450 million Mr. Obama has raised. But the questionable donations — some donors were listed simply with gibberish for their names — raise concerns about whether the Obama campaign is adequately vetting its unprecedented flood of donors."
"The questionable donations to the Obama campaign, most of which appear to have been given in small increments online, are bolstering the contentions of some campaign finance groups that additional disclosure requirements are needed for contributions of $200 or less."
" Roughly 70 percent of these contributions to Mr. Obama are not reported, compared with more than 75 percent of Mr. McCain’s."
"questioning the legitimacy of the more than $220 million in small donations to Mr. Obama’s campaign."

My thoughts on the election
I am not in favor of McCain but given the liberal Democrats are going to be in control of congress, McCain is a better choice than Obama. What I like about McCain he is drive to control waste and corruption. Obama is an attractive man, a great speaker and his election might do a lot to heal race relations. But Obama appears to have a lot of radical/socialist friends. The socialist agenda would hurt the most innovative and growth generating part of our economy, the small business.
What I think is most important for this country in the future is the need for cheap energy. Obama and the liberal Democrats think green energy is more important, despite the higher costs. A McCain administration is more likely to drill for more oil and produce nuclear power plants. Both would advance the cause of renewable sources like wind and solar.
National security is another important issue. McCain has more experience in the areas of national defense. Obama would probably put a more likable face to rest of the world.
The liberals' main goal for the Presidency is to appoint Supreme Court justices. Because they want to rule from the bench, not the ballot box. The conservatives want justices to follow the Constitution and to create new law through congress and the states.
The Congress is in control of spending and taxes, and thus the economy. The President is in control of foreign relations A McCain administration would be checked by a Democratic Congress. An Obama administration would have no such constraints.
History has a way of changing the plans of the President. Bush wasn't in favor of national building until 9/11. Clinton wasn't in favor of welfare reform until he had to be.
The biggest fear is that an untested Palin would assume the Presidency. But in fact, she has as much experience as Obama. Plus she has two years of actually governing a state.

Current and former Obama Muslim outreach directors meet with radical Muslims.
"One meeting attendee was Mahdi Bray of the Muslim American Society, several of the participants said. The MAS website describes Bray as an imam and "long time civil and human rights activist." Bray's critics say he has a history of defending terrorists.hey point to a video of Bray at a rally in 2000, for example, in which he can be seen pumping his fist in the air in support of the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. In a 2004 interview, he called the Israeli assassination of a Hamas spiritual leader an "unlawful, cowardly and dangerous act of state-sponsored terrorism.""
"Also attending the meeting was Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing case."

Rashid Khalidi, another friend of Obama
"Democratic presidential front runner Sen. Barack Obama served as a paid director on the board of a nonprofit organization that granted funding to a controversial Arab group that mourns the establishment of Israel as a "catastrophe." (Obama has also reportedly spoken at fundraisers for Palestinians living in what the United Nations terms refugee camps.)
The co-founder of the Arab group, Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi, is a harsh critic of Israel who reportedly worked on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization when it was labeled a terror group by the State Department."

Are we near a market bottom?
I see a few problems, including the short sellers and the lack of liquidity. People can not borrow money to buy stocks. If you do not have to sell for a year, it may recover most by then; but while banks all over the world are not loaning, do not expect a quick recovery. The lack of liquidity will also affect the economy as a whole. The automakers will not be selling as many cars until people can get loans. This of course will affect the income streams of the companies, and thus the value of the companies. As people lose income this will slow down the economy. That puts more pressure on the housing market as people can no longer afford their homes.
If Obama wins, capital gains taxes will increase, thus there is less reason to buy stocks, thus decreasing the value of holding stocks. The oil exporting countries are reducing output to support oil prices, delaying economic recovery. The biggest question is which companies will survive. The lack of liquidity could strangle an otherwise healthy company. Without knowing which companies will survive, it would foolish to invest in companies.
As I ponder this, I am for the first time really worried about this. I see the market bottoming out but not recovering. It is possible we may enter another great depression. People, afraid of losing their jobs, may ask for trade protection. Already we have socialized many of the banks and insurance companies. The best thing we have going for us is the FDIC insurance, so we don't lose all our money and have runs on the bank. But with a Democratic congress and a Democratic president, I fear proposals that will not be helpful to recovering the economy.

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin remained in the dark while her husband repeatedly asked top state officials to help get his former brother-in-law kicked off the state police force, Palin's husband and top aides said in affidavits provided to The Associated Press."
" the firing was not a tit-for-tat, but they also portray her as uninvolved while her husband met repeatedly with her aides about family affairs."
"He told them emotional stories about Wooten threatening and emotionally abusing his family. He said he talked to anyone who would listen. He gave them photos and documents, which they forwarded to others in the administration, and he questioned how Wooten kept his job.
Even Gov. Palin's special assistant, Ivy Frye, said she was distraught when she was told about the situation.
"I've felt empathy for the Palin and Heath families in having to endure harassment, intimidation, threats and abuse from a former family member," Frye wrote.
But Frye said she never talked about it with the governor or mentioned the idea of asking Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan to fire Wooten."

Media Bias - NBC
The skit on Saturday Night Live with Barney Frank on the bailout bill has been edited on the online version.
Must-Not See TV
"The brutally wicked sketch must have caused tremors in left-wing circles. The Sandlers and Mr. Soros have all been prime financial backers of independent political groups that have secured huge influence in the Democratic Party and helped fuel the rise of Barack Obama."
Edited SNL subprime video also happens to excise Barney Frank's involvement
"What also was excised was any mention of the involvement of Massachusetts' Rep. Frank in the Sandler subprime mess."
"In the original skit Sandler addresses Frank, saying, "And thank you, Congressman Frank, as well as many Republicans for helping block Congressional oversight of our corrupt activities."
To which Frank replies enthusiastically, "Not at all!""
