The debate - my initial impression.

The first couple of questions I would call a virtual tie. If your decision is based on if the US should have entered Iraq, the debate won't matter to you. If this was a boxing match, I think McCain pulled ahead in the next couple of questions on points. However Obama did not make any glaring mistakes. Being ahead in the poll, this is probably enough. Obama did have any annoying habit of trying to talk over McCain, instead of waiting to McCain to finish. I don't think this was a bad as Gore's sighs though. My impression would be the McCain would be a better commander-in-chief. It is close, but I give the edge to McCain.

Bailout to fund ACORN

Senator Dodd proposes to take "profits" (at least 20%) from the bailout and give it to ACORN. Obama was a lawyer for ACORN. link

ACORN provides the "shock troops" for the Democratic party and is linked to voter fraud.

"James Terry, Chief Public Advocate, Consumers Rights League:
"ACORN routinely says it will clean up its act. Yet, given its decade-long history of voter fraud, embezzlement, and misuses of taxpayer funds, ACORN's pattern of fraud can no longer be dismissed as a series of 'unfortunate events.' "The problem of voter registration fraud raises serious questions for this committee, and the Consumers Rights League appreciates that the right questions are being asked."

Poll Results

Should the government bail out the banks? No - 60%, Yes - Unfortunately - 40% (6-4)

Should the Democrats insist on a new stimulus package? 60% Yes, 30% No, 10% Yes - No bailout with stimulus (6-3-1)

Democrats and Media Blame McCain

Democrats are blaming McCain for the breakdown of the talks.
Point One: They control the house, they do not need the Republicans for the House to pass the bill.
Point Two: Reid said they needed McCain, once McCain accepted the challenged and returned, they blame it on him.
Point Three: Right after the meeting, Barney Frank says McCain talked little and only at the end of the meeting, but the next days blames McCain for the blowup.
Listening to Rush this afternoon, it seems that Obama opened the meeting speaking for the Democrats. Having notes on what the House Republicans were going to propose, Obama asked Paulson if it was a good idea and Paulson said no. This is what blew up the meeting.
Point Four: Democrats want cover on the bill, they will not pass unless House Republicans go along. But they want to be in charge for the next four years? Is this leadership?
Point Five: Obama has not yet said that he approves of the bill that supposedly was "agreed" to.

Bailout - more democrats involved.

Countrywide Financial, which sold it loans to Fannie Mae, gave:

Fannie Vice Chairman Jamie Gorelick (of 9/11 fame) at 10 year loan at 5% for $960,149.
Frank Raines (Fannie Mae CEO) 10 year, 5.125%, $982,253.
Senator Dodd 5 year, 4.25%, $506,000.
Fannie CEO James Johnson, 5 year, 3.875%, $971,650.
also
Fannie COO Daniel Mudd, 7 year, 4.250%, $2,965,000.

"The borrowers all say they weren't aware of getting special treatment."

Poll Results

Should taxes be raised on those making over 250K? 70% Yes, 30% No (7-3)

You wonder why the New York media is so scared of her that they keep making things up. Anybody remember the fuss kicked up by the Obama cover on the New Yorker?

Biden Changes History Again

link

"The Democratic vice presidential nominee criticized John McCain for opposing negotiations with Iran, saying, "After seven years... the Bush administration realized the absurdity of its own policy and sent our leading diplomat to Iran. The assistant secretary of state as he went to Tehran, sat down at the instruction of the president of the United States."

Oops.

No such meeting ever happened. There was a meeting with Iran but it was Undersecretary William Burns and it was in Switzerland — not Iran — and Burns merely sat in on discussions between Iranian representatives and other international diplomats. Burns had no negotiating role and was just an observer.

And, U.S. diplomats had previously met with Iran anyway, at a lower level in Iraq to discuss issues related to Iraq."

McCain Cancer Attact Ad

Saw this on MSNBC.

New York Times

"In releasing 1,500 pages of medical and psychiatric records, Senator John McCain of Arizona has provided an unusually large amount of such material for a candidate for high office, including the broadest look ever given the public at the psychological profile of a presidential candidate."

Los Angles Times

"Although he hasn’t had a physical in 16 months, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been “in excellent health” and is physically ready to serve as president, his longtime physician wrote in a letter released by the campaign today.

The letter contained relatively few details but noted that Obama has a family history of cancer – his mother died of ovarian cancer and a grandfather of prostate cancer. A prostate-specific antigen test detected no issues for Obama, however."

"The overview was contained in a one-page letter with no supporting documentation. “With no surgery or hospital stays, this is a complete summary of his doctor visits and medical records for the past two decades,” said campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

The brief Obama letter contrasted with Arizona Sen. John McCain’s decision to let a selected group of reporters spend three hours with nearly 1,200 pages of health records last week."

Voter Suppression

Grapevine Link

"Democratic Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner told election officials to reject the applications if a box is not checked on the form stating, "I am a qualified elector." ... Brunner says, "While state law does not require a check box, the McCain-Palin campaign designed its form to require that voters check a box to affirmatively state they are qualified electors."

Media Bias - AP News

Grapevine Link

"The Associated Press and other media outlets reacted with alarm when the McCain camp kept reporters from attending a photo opportunity with Sarah Palin and foreign leaders at the U.N. on Tuesday. AP reporter Sara Kugler wrote that reporters were banned "so as not to risk a question being asked of Palin."

The McCain camp later relented, but there was no concern by the AP in July when Barack Obama conducted similar closed-door meetings with European leaders."

Obama, crisis and debates

Obama says he will work with both sides as President. Is there a better time than now in order to fix the financial crisis? Obama, who has avoided town hall debates all summer, now wants to debate on Friday instead of working on the bill. Is this leadership?

Humor - UNION RULES AND HOOKERS

A dedicated U.A.W. worker was attending a convention in Las Vegas and decided to check out the local brothels. When he got to the first one, he asked the Madam, "Is this a union house?"

"No," she replied, "I'm sorry it isn't."

"Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The house gets $80 and the girls get $20," she answered

Offended at such unfair dealings, the union man stomped off down the street in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized shop. His search continued until finally he reached a brothel where the Madam responded, "Why yes sir, this is a union house.

We observe all union rules."

The man asked, "And if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?" "The girls get $80 and the house gets $20."

"That's more like it!" the union man said.

He handed the Madam $100, looked around the room, and pointed to a stunningly attractive blonde.

"I'd like her," he said. "I'm sure you would, sir," said the Madam. Then she gestured to a 92-year old woman in the corner, "but Ethel here has 67 years seniority and according to union rules, she's next."

Accounting rule may have caused crisis.

The Mark-to-Market Melee
Is an obscure accounting rule to blame for the credit market meltdown?
By Daniel Gross
Posted Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 5:53 PM ET

Basically, say the bank has a mortgage worth $100,000 yesterday. Nothing has changed (house is still worth the same, owner is still paying the bills, etc.) but in the crisis no one else is willing to accept the risk. The mortgage can only be sold for $50,0000 today. So the bank, even if it didn't want to sell, has to value the mortgage at $50,000. So the bank has on paper less assets, and thus less money to loan. And if the current assets value is less than its obligations, it becomes bankrupt.

Obama-Palin Ticket

In the unlikely position it ends up as an electoral tie, the House could select Obama as President and the Senate could select Palin as the Vice President.

Biden Another Quayle?

Well, no, because he is a Democrat and the mainstream media will not hound him like Dan Quayle.

Besides him saying that Obama was not ready to be President in the primaries, and admitting that Hillary would be a better choice, and even asking a wheelchair bound man to stand up, Biden keeps making mistake. The above probably would be played over and over again if he was a Republican, but it is not too bad. He has also denounced his own campaign ad and said Roosevelt was president in 1929.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

Poll Results - Rangel

WHAT SHOULD RANGEL DO? 57% Nothing, 28% Resign Committee Chair, 14% Resign from Congress (4-2-1)

Poll Results- Debates

Debates - Will the affect how you will vote? 62% No - I've already made up my mind., 37% Yes - I am leaning but can change my mind, (5-3)

Are you going to watch the debates? 100% Yes. (9-0)

Rangel steps in it again

Democratic Rep. Rangel calls Palin 'disabled'

"Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., already in trouble for tax problems, called Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin "disabled" on Friday, and then quickly retreated and said he misspoke saying he meant "disadvantaged.""

Obama not gaining more Hillary supporters

Latest poll shows Obama has 58% of Hillary supporters, the same amount he had in June, before the convention. 7% of Hillary supporters now backing McCain-Palin.

Obama still favored to win.

Using RealClearPolitics poll, those states solid or leaning McCain, give him 265 electoral votes. Taking the Bradley effect into account, McCain could win with Pennsylvania (21) or Wisconsin (10. If Donna Brazile is correct, Obama needs >5% in pre-election polling results to win a state. In that case McCain will also pickup Colorado (9), New Hampshire(4),Wisconsin (10) and possibly Michigan (17), Washington (11). Personally, I think Donna is reaching. But given that pollsters thought Bush would lose in 2004, maybe Donna is right.

Who do you want to be President?

No one will do well in all situations. But think back through history and decide who would you have wanted to be President back then, Obama or McCain?

(1) Commander of the Revolutionary troops.
(2) Offers of Louisiana and Alaska territories.
(3) During the Civil War.
(4) During World War I.
(5) At the start of the Great Depression.
(6) Hitler entering the Rhineland. Japan's conquest of the east.
(7) Fixing the Great Depression.
(8) During World War II.
(9) Iraq War one, Saddam's invading Kuwait.
(10) After 9/11.

Baliout - Executive Pay

I guess I am not alone in thinking executives should not be overly compensated.

A Fine Mess

"Comments by McCain on Sunday suggest he might propose an amendment along the lines of one I received in an e-mail message from a fellow semi-populist conservative: “Any institution selling securities under this legislation to the Treasury Department shall not be allowed to compensate any officer or employee with a higher salary next year than that paid the president of the United States.” This would punish overpaid WallStreeters and, more important, limit participation in the bailout to institutions really in trouble."

Media Bias - The View

Media Bias - Saturday Night LIve

9/20: Once again there were jokes about McCain being old, out-of-touch, and false campaign ads. Then there was the skit about inane New York Times reporters with a tasteless "unproven, yet un-disproven incest in the Palin family" comment. I guess they can't figure out how to make a joke about Obama or Biden.

Humor - The Farmer's Donkey

from a friend:

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;

it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he
quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing.
He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of d irt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone.. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.
Live simply and appreciate what you have.
Give more.
Expect less

NOW ...........

Enough of that crap

. .. The donkey later came back, and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him.
The gash from the bite got infected and the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

MORAL FROM TODAY'S LESSON:

When you do something wrong, and try to cover yor ass, it always comes back to bite you.

Biden - Taxes - and Charity
