Media Bias Mea Culpa

Reporter admits media bias against Palin.

Sarah 'Barracuda' Palin and the Piranhas of the Press

A good article with many examples from other journalists.

Some quotes:

"But the true villains in this political morality play may have been the press."
"Our journalism model is busted, too."
"In the 2008 election, we took sides, straight and simple, particularly with regard to the vice presidential race."
"What I am saying is that we simply didn't hold Joe Biden to the same standard as Sarah Palin, and for me, the real loser in this sordid tale is my chosen profession."
"From the beginning, and for the ensuing 10 months, the coverage of this governor consisted of a steamy stew of cultural elitism and partisanship."
"Women columnists turned on Sarah Palin rather quickly. A plain-speaking, moose-hunting, Bible-thumping, pro-life, self-described "hockey mom" with five children and movie star looks with only a passing interest in foreign policy -- that wasn't the woman journalism's reigning feminists had envisioned for the glass ceiling-breaking role of First Female President (or Vice President). Hillary Rodham Clinton was more like what they had in mind – and Sarah, well, she was the un-Hillary."

"The first thing reporters and commentators seemed to have noticed about Gov. Palin was her physical beauty. The second was that she had a bunch of kids, the last one born with Down's syndrome in spring 2008. For some reason, these two facts infuriated many Democratic activists and bloggers – and some liberal journalists."

"This proved a harbinger, too, as misinformation slipped easily from the left blogosphere into mainstream coverage."

"The Times, for example, which found the alleged transgressions of an actual presidential candidate (John Edwards) unworthy of investigation, managed to find room for three Page One stories touching on the sex life of a vice presidential candidate's daughter."

Meda Bias: NBC Immelt

No More Obama Bashing at CNBC?

GE execs questioned about MSNBC slant

"First up was a woman asking about a reported meeting in which [chief executive Jeffrey] Immelt and NBC Uni CEO Jeff Zucker supposedly told top CNBC executives and talent to be less critical of President Obama and his policies.

Immelt acknowledged a meeting took place but said no one at CNBC was told what to say or not to say about politics."

A culture of corruption

The Republicans got hammered in the media, repeating the Democrats mantra that the Republicans was a "culture of corruption". Now we see Bill Richardson withdraw his name because of the same pay-for-play allegations that got Blagojevich into trouble. Treasury Secretary-nominee Timothy Geithner didn't pay his taxes, if he was a Republican I would bet the media would hound him to resign.

Hillary Clinton was approved despite potential conflicts of interest created Bill's foreign fundraising. Do you think they media would have been more outraged if this was a Republican administration?

Left Wing Media Doesn't Check It Sources

link

"MSNBC was the victim of a hoax when it reported that an adviser to John McCain had identified himself as the source of an embarrassing story about former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the network said Wednesday. "

"Eisenstadt identifies himself on a blog as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. Yet neither he nor the institute exist"

"The Eisenstadt claim had mistakenly been delivered to Shuster by a producer and was used in a political discussion Monday afternoon, MSNBC said. "

"Eisenstadt's "work" had been quoted and debunked before. The Huffington Post said it had cited Eisenstadt in July on a story regarding the Hilton family and McCain. "

"Among the other victims were political blogs for the Los Angeles Times and The New Republic, each of which referenced false material from Eisenstadt's blog.

And in July, Jonathan Stein of Mother Jones magazine blogged an item about Eisenstadt speaking on Iraqi television about a casino in Baghdad's "Green Zone." "

Media Bias: Chris Matthews

"CHRIS MATTHEWS: I want to do everything I can to make this thing work … this new presidency work.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Is that your job?
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Yeah that's my job.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Your job as a journalist is to make this presidency work?
CHRIS MATTHEWS: To make this work successfully, because this country needs a successful presidency more than anything right now.
[...]
CHRIS MATTHEWS: How can you not route for the success of the new president?
JOE SCARBOROUGH: As Americans, Chris Matthews, we're all rooting for the success of Barack Obama … But you just talked about being a journalist and your job as a journalist is not to question motives, and then two seconds later you said your job is to make this presidency a success … I just think that's curious."

Media Bias: Washington Post Admits It

link

"The Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama. My surveys, which ended on Election Day, show that they are right on both counts"

"The op-ed page ran far more laudatory opinion pieces on Obama, 32, than on Sen. John McCain, 13. There were far more negative pieces about McCain, 58, than there were about Obama, 32, and Obama got the editorial board's endorsement. The Post has several conservative columnists, but not all were gung-ho about McCain."

Media Bias - Obama

link

"For Obama during this period, just over a third of the stories were clearly positive in tone (36%), while a similar number (35%) were neutral or mixed. A smaller number (29%) were negative.

For McCain, by comparison, nearly six in ten of the stories studied were decidedly negative in nature (57%), while fewer than two in ten (14%) were positive. "

"Coverage of Obama began in the negative after the conventions, but the tone switched with the changing direction of the polls. The most positive stories about him were those that were most political—the ones focused on polling, the electoral map, and tactics."

"
• MSNBC stood out for having less negative coverage of Obama than the press generally (14% of stories vs. 29% in the press overall) and for having more negative stories about McCain (73% of its coverage vs. 57% in the press overall).

• On Fox, in contrast, coverage of Obama was more negative than the norm (40% of stories vs. 29% overall) and less positive (25% of stories vs. 36% generally). For McCain, the news channel was somewhat more positive (22% vs. 14% in the press overall) and substantially less negative (40% vs. 57% in the press overall). Yet even here, his negative stories outweighed positive ones by almost 2 to 1.

Media Bias? Palin

link

"The study found that ABC, NBC and CBS ran a total of 69 stories on Palin. Two were deemed positive, 37 negative and 30 neutral. None of the evening news shows ran a positive story about Palin.

Twenty-one stories portrayed Palin as unintelligent and unqualified, 14 characterized her as John McCain's attack dog and nine emphasized attacks on Palin by conservatives."

Media Bias? Alabama ABC TV station refuses to run Republican ad

The Los Angeles Times will not release tape harmful to Obama

link

"Apparently this is a tape with a dinner that Mr. Ayers, the former, and now still, unrepentant terrorist, who was at, and also the, one of the leading spokespersons for the PLO. Now, why that should not be made public is beyond me," McCain told La Kalle radio"

"The dinner talks had been "consistent reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases. . . . It's for that reason that I'm hoping that, for many years to come, we continue that conversation -- a conversation that is necessary not just around Mona and Rashid's dinner table," but around "this entire world," the Times wrote, quoting Obama on the purported videotape. Palin - CNN

National Review

"Editor’s note: Byron York’s recent article in National Review on Sarah Palin’s time as governor of Alaska became a campaign issue Tuesday when CNN’s Drew Griffin distorted its meaning in a high-profile interview with Palin. CNN’s problems aside, what was the story really about? And what did it say about Palin's readiness for office? Now, for the first time, York’s article is available on the web."

The question begins 1:25 into clip below.

Murtha Watch: PA is redneck

"Democratic Rep. John Murtha said Monday some of his constituents in western Pennsylvania are "rednecks" and the entire region just five to 10 years ago was "really redneck."

The comments come one week after he called his own constituents "racist" in an interview with his local newspaper."

More Media Bias

Joe "the plumber" ask Obama about how his taxes would be increased if he bought a business. Obama made an unfortunate comment sharing his philosophy about "sharing the wealth". Well this hasn't gone down well with some of the public. So now the media is digging up dirt on "Joe". That he hasn't achieved his plumber licence and that he had a tax lien in the past. Just shows you have to be careful getting in front of the liberal media steamroller.

By the way, it appears a reporter was mistaken when he thought he heard someone shot "kill him" at a Palin rally.

A senior Secret Service agent said allegations that a man yelled 'kill him" when Barack Obama's name was referenced Tuesday during a Sarah Palin rally are "unfounded," reports the Timesleader.com, a Northeastern Pennsylvania news agency.

Agent Bill Slavoski -- who was standing in the audience along with other Secret Service agents during the rally in Scranton, Pa. -- said neither he nor the other officers heard the comment, according to the report published Thursday.

"said he could not find anyone other than the Scranton Times-Tribune's reporter to corroborate the story."

Media Bias - NBC

The skit on Saturday Night Live with Barney Frank on the bailout bill has been edited on the online version.

Must-Not See TV

"The brutally wicked sketch must have caused tremors in left-wing circles. The Sandlers and Mr. Soros have all been prime financial backers of independent political groups that have secured huge influence in the Democratic Party and helped fuel the rise of Barack Obama."

Edited SNL subprime video also happens to excise Barney Frank's involvement

"What also was excised was any mention of the involvement of Massachusetts' Rep. Frank in the Sandler subprime mess."

"In the original skit Sandler addresses Frank, saying, "And thank you, Congressman Frank, as well as many Republicans for helping block Congressional oversight of our corrupt activities."

To which Frank replies enthusiastically, "Not at all!""

NBC Edits 'Saturday Night Live' Sketch

Ayers, Socialism and Schools

"Still more evidence of how the media are in the tank for Obama was evident in Tom Brokaw's description of Ayers on Sunday's "Meet The Press."

"School reformer" is how Brokaw identified the co-founder of the Weather Underground, the radical organization that, among other activities, bombed government buildings, banks, police departments and military bases in the early 1970s."

INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY link

"At an education forum in Venezuela, Bill Ayers showed the real issue is not his terrorist past. It's the socialist revolutionary agenda that he and Barack Obama want to impose on the nation's schools."

"As Stern points out, "Ayers and his education school comrades are explicit about the need to indoctrinate public school children in the belief that America is a racist, militarist country and that the capitalist system is inherently unfair and oppressive.""

Media Bias - Katie Couric ?

link

"Here is Couric's full response to Biden's bizarre outburst about FDR (a) being president and (b) going on TV in 1929: "Relating to the fears of the average American is one of Biden's strong suits.""

"But when our beauteous Sarah said that John McCain was a better leader on the economy than Barack Obama, Couric relentlessly badgered her for evidence. "Why do you say that?" Couric demanded. "Why are they waiting for John McCain and not Barack Obama? ... Can you give us any more examples of his leading the charge for more oversight?""

"The beauteous Sarah had cited McCain's prescient warnings about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. But Couric, the crackerjack journalist who didn't know FDR wasn't president in 1929, demanded more examples from Palin."

Another Cheap Shot at Palin

You wonder why the New York media is so scared of her that they keep making things up. Anybody remember the fuss kicked up by the Obama cover on the New Yorker?
