Obama Expresses "Socialist" Views in 2001

link

Obama: "one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendancy to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that."

America is already heavily socialist to the oil and finance industries and the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about long ago, we need to cut welfare to the above mentioned industries and use that money to invest in clean energy technologies, small business, education, health and ending poverty...thanks to Republican socialists we waste far too much money in industries that do enormous harm and don't invest enough in activities that do enormous good. We should completely eliminate income taxes and replace it with a carbon tax that would motivate everyone both corporations and people to work, create, invest more and pollute less.

I'll never defend obama, but let's all remember that it was under Bush that the entire financial and banking systems in this country were nationalized, i.e., socialized.

And banks will keep failing, because they implicitly know they're "too big" to allow to fail by the government.

So I hope rush limbaugh and his gang remember 2008 when he's revising history on a daily basis for the next ten years.

Do you think there is a difference when the U.S. buys banks to save them (and hopes to resell them at a profit) and a country like Venezuela that forces the sale of a company to the government (often at a loss the shareholders)?

Joe you're comparing apples to oranges, Venezuela nationalized only the military and the oil and the shareholders who lost out were American and European I don't think the Venezuelan people are crying for America and European shareholders of oil and arms...Venezuela is an Open society far more open than Cuba, its press is as free as ours perhaps even more open than our own society since Bush and Fox propaganda, it is far from perfect but much freer than Cuba, or urban poor America, you can start a small business in Venezuela and keep a higher percentage of your profits there than you can in the USA, small business is taxed less there...you need to dig deeper to get the big picture...furthermore even in oil foreigners can still invest and retain healthy profit margins in Venezuela, just not what they had before, apparently its enough because Europeans have been investing like crazy down there...furthermore Europeans have got the investment jump on us in Cuba too since they know its just a matter of a few years when Cuba is free for investment again. They are investing in Cuba like crazy already cause they know they will be able to keep their profits. That's why we need Obama he will do wonders for our image and be a great boom to our ability to invest overseas.
