Jimmy Carter - the forgotten economy.

The Democrats are trying to say this is the worst economy since the great depression. Do they forget Jimmy Carter? Unemployment reached 7.8% in July 1980. Inflation reached 14.76% in March 1980. Interest rates reach 20% in April 1980.

I remember the days of Jimmy Carter, and though the western economies were going through the trials and tribulations of the new player at the poker table, OPEC, (led by Saudi Arabia, home to Bin Laden... by the way you should check out Democracy Now's one hour interview yesterday with Steve Coll one of the few people in the world who knows Bin Laden inside out... his childhood, upbringing and why he changed from rich elite prep school kid to jihad terrorist, where he is now, is he still alive, etc... I hope the CIA was watching)

anyway, as I was saying, though OPEC hit us hard, I don't remember Carter's economy being as bad as Bush's, Bush's seems much worse, Bush and the Republicans are destroying the very economic fabric of our economy which should bankrupt us eventually if we don't do a U-turn and fast... the economy was much better under Carter than today...I remember under Carter, when he was running against Reagan, the economy had already started turning around.... Carter's reaction to OPEC was to fight it with Renewable Energy, Solar , Wind, etc... instead of negotiating with Saudis directly like Reagan, Bush, Baker et al did... Carter put solar panels on the White House roof showing leadership, Reagan took them off mocking progress, Democrats tried to intiate legislation like Germany's (today running on over 25% renewables and growing fast)but Republicans killed Democratic legislation, resulting in the US running today at less than 1% renewable energy).

If Americans had had the wisdom to re-elect Carter...we would be I'm sure running on at least 30% or 40% renewables today, if not more, since we were more dynamic economically than Germany at that time, which was heavily burdened by its vast social programs, free health care, free higher education, unemployment security etc,

Instead of fighting OPEC with renewables like Carter wanted to do, Reagan Bush Baker wanted to force Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE... to buy our stuff (Exxon, Chevron, Bectel, Halliburton...) in exchange for the high price of oil (which Exxon wanted as much as OPEC), Saudi Arabia promised to buy our stuff and invest in our banks, if we killed renewable energy, which they were afraid of and for good reason... they thought long term we thought short term... they bribed our politicians, our politicians took the bribes...they were right, we were wrong...this is why I prefer Democrats, though no where liberal enough, at least they think more longer term than Republicans and are a little harder to bribe.

This huge strategic mistake by Reagan, gave us short term relief by stimulating our economy with Saudi money, creating millions of jobs in the military industrial and oil sectors, turning us into a war economy, a country dependent on war for our economic strength, giving Reagan a second term and Pappy Bush a term as well, enough time to start pushing our manufacturing irrevocably to China, turning that country into an even greater polluter than we are.... slave labor, a police state, vastly polluted land, water and air and a huge new strong wealthy middle class (though not free) are the rewards for the Chinese for embracing savage capitalism.

At least when they were poor they had clean air and water.

If Carter had been re-elected China would still be communist, poor, but not that poor, yet better off than today, it would be like Laos today, nobody in Laos is starving or drinking acid water and breathing through gas masks...China might have even gone the way of Taiwan, socialist, like in Europe, yet not a threat to America.

If Carter had been re-elected China would not be the threat to us, that it is today, with their Yuan crushing our dollar because they own us financially... the oil powers, OPEC and Russia would have little influence because we'd all be swimming in Renewable energy, our economy would be booming like never seen before in history because of the high paying jobs that would have been created in wind and solar, under Carter and succeeding Democrats... global warming, and the hurricanes that come with it, would not be the problem it is today, we'd have had universal health care long ago, along with free higher education in exchange for community service, no terrorism , no 9/11, no multi-trillion dollar wars, etc... if Americans had only had the wisdom to re-elect Carter and only liberal Democrats afterwards, what a great country we'd be living in today with the respect and admiration of the whole world.

I miss Carter, probably one of the best Presidents we've ever had, if only we would have given him four more years....even if we had only elected Al Gore, the economy and our collective morality would be much better today...but no... and now it looks like we're going to elect McCain, who will probably die soon and be replaced by a radical religious zealot hockey mom...who will have the nuclear codes at her finger tips!

Furthermore if the Bin Laden terrorists, who are only responding to what they perceive as our terrorism, see that we have elected yet again another Republcian, they will surely sneak in a nuclear device and 9/11 will look like nothing in comparison, McCain or Palin will declare martial law and we irrevobably become a police state, with our fingers on the nuclear buttons ready to blow up the world, our desperate economy combined with terrorist attacks will turn us into Nazi Germany ...God save us all!

Pray that Obama wins this time, the rest of the World is praying!!!

What killed renewable energy was that oil went from $40 to $10 a barrel
