According to ABC New tonight, on August 23 Obama said,
"Iran, Cuba, Venezula these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us."
Well, how tiny was Afghanistan and Al Qaeda compare to Iran, before 9/11? "Tiny" threats can still cause a lot of damage.

You seemed to have missed the "." between the first and second sentence. He did NOT say they were a tiny threat. He said they were tiny countries. And not as serious a threat as the Soviet Union.
The implication, in my opinoin, is that Obama does not consider them to be a serious threat. My point is that they are potentially a much more serious threat than Al Qaeda could ever have been. One should not dismiss the threat from Iran just because it does not yet have the ability to nuke the whole world.
The real threat to America is Neo-con Republican tyranny and Israel perhaps attacking Iran before Bush leaves office, forcing us into another war we don't need or want and certainely can't afford. These threats are much more serious than Russia, China, Iran, Al Qaida and the Taliban. Venezuela is no threat at all, that's just ridiculous. Neither is Iran that too is ridiculous, they will never be allowed to have the bomb, especially if Obama is President, because unlike McCain, Obama will have World support...and even if Iran did get the bomb, their one or two bombs against our 10000 bombs or Russia's 10000 bombs or Pakistan's 20 bombs probably already in the hands of Al Qaida, the way things are going...Iran could be an ally not a threat if we were smart.
The real threats to our Constitution, our civil rights, our privacy, our economic prosperity, our very freedom, the essence of America, is the Republican party that's dominated by corrupt sycophantic congressmen only too willing to screw the American people in order to help the likes of Citibank, Exxon and Halliburton top execs and top shareholders (like the Saudi Royal family) get much richer.
Much of the evidence concerning 9/11 has been destroyed or kept secret, we still don't know what really happened. All I know is that I find it extremely incredible that a sick man in a cave can defeat a multi-trillion dollar defense system, the most expensive and sophisticated in the world, a system that can supposedly scramble fighter jets in minutes if under attack, yet for some reason on that day, nothing worked???? Very strange??? Why was all the metal from the towers shipped off to China to be melted down, why not here? This was hard evidence destroyed, evidence that could have demonstrated without a doubt if explosives were used in bringing down the towers. Why aren't these questions investigated better??? Very strange!!!
The real threat to America is right wing extremist Americans, neo-cons, religious fundamentalists who believe the earth was created 5000 years ago, poor white KKK types who have morphed their hate of blacks into hate of immigrants, a corporate controlled media that gives us entertainment in the place of news, a right wing government that has considered our Constitution no better than toilet paper and our economy a money tree for corrupt oil and military industrialists...these are the real threats to America... we can defend ourselves against anyone on the outside and by far, we spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined!! What are we so scared of?? The real threat to America is domestic tyranny that could turn this country into a fascist police state that has already succeeded to a large extent under Bush and the Republican congress up until 2006.
The Republicans don't care if they destroy America, they'll just move their money to Dubai, or the Carribean or Monaco or Shanghai, for Republicans American tax money is a something they should steal, they consider it theirs anyway. Why do you think they run up such huge debts with war and financial fraud, this is an indirect way of stealing money from the middle classes. They want America to be a society of the very rich exploiting a huge population of very poor, eliminating the middle class and assuring cheap, very cheap labor... after they crush the middle class they will make you believe its the fault of the immigrants so you can divert your anger towards them.
The Republican agenda is well on its way with Bush, they will finish the job with McCain.
and they'll be stopped cold with Obama perhaps for a very long time.

If 20 men with box cutters can be a threat, Venezuela, with it's control of oil and the wealth received from it, certainly can become a threat.
BTW it was Obama who mentioned Venezuela in context with Iran.
