Energy - Increase Security By Drilling More

Certain of the United States' current adversaries gain a significant amount of income from oil sales. If we start drilling in all available areas now, even though it may takes years before any oil is produced, those that produce oil will know that in the future they will find it harder to sell oil.

If the U.S. combines drilling with an aggressive alternative energy program, those that sell oil will realize that there will be less demand in the future. This will produce a desire to sell as much oil as they can while they still can. More overall supply will lower the price, thus leaving the current adversaries with less funds with to do mischief.

Joe you said "Certain of the United States' current adversaries gain a significant amount of income from oil sales." But an article by Damien Caveli says:
"The Bush administration's ties to oil and gas are as deep as an offshore well. President George W. Bush's family has been running oil companies since 1950. Vice President Dick Cheney spent the late '90s as CEO of Halliburton, the world's largest oil services company. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice sat on the board of Chevron, which graced a tanker with her name. Commerce Secretary Donald Evans was the CEO of Tom Brown Inc. -- a natural gas company with fields in Texas, Colorado and Wyoming -- for more than a decade."
And "There's no denying that this is an oil administration," says Peter Eisner, managing director of the nonprofit, nonpartisan watchdog group that conducted the study of Bush's campaign finances. "You can't talk about the career of any George Bush -- father or son -- without talking about oil."
Does this mean that some of the current administration are adversaries to U.S. citizens?

No and neither are Great Britain or Norway.

A company or country should seek the most value from their resources. But it is an unfortunate fact that certain adversaries also possess large oil fields.

A company doesn't have resources, meaning natural resources, it belongs to the people, all the people equally and should benefit all the people equally, those who drill should get paid for the drilling and nothing more, the people should share the lion's share of the profits from what's in the ground and it should be divided evenly amongst all. Furthermore we can get our energy from renewables today, all our energy, if we want, its a question of choice and political will not technology, the technology is there and has been there for 20 years, its about time we change, our planet can not survive anymore drilling anywhere, I agree with anonymous that Republicans are the real adversaries of the American people, with the exception of the very rich Americans, they have bankrupted our country with war and corruption ...vote Obama Yes we Can! and Yes we Must before its too late to change...McCain Palin equals more Tyranny for America and more tyranny for the World!

I suppose any country can go to a "cost plus" model for developing natural resources. It appears it did not work out too well for the Soviet Union.
