Obama Admin Suppresses Free Speech

Insurers Criticize Administration 'Gag Order'

"The federal government has ordered health insurers to stop telling Medicare beneficiaries that proposed health reform legislation could hurt seniors and jeopardize their benefits."

This is contrary to the First Amendment.

"Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Senate's Republican leader, denounced the HHS order as an attempt to squelch free speech."

So are lies protected by first amendment?... what about truth in advertising? Do you believe the cigarette industry should have the right to say smoking is good for your health, like they used to say in the 50s and 60s with actual doctors saying this and smoking a cigarette while they lie to your face? This is how they brainwash you Joe, you need to be more careful.

(1) In fact: lies are protected by the first amendment. You can say Nazi's are a superior race.

OLYMPIA, Wash. A sharply divided state Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a law which bars political candidates from deliberately making false statements about their opponents violates the First Amendment right of free speech.

(2) The cigarette companies have a first amendment right to say what they want, but they are responsible (i.e subject to fines) if what they say is false. The government wanted to suppress Humana's right to say something to it's customers. It doesn't matter that Humana was correct in what it said.

Well if we can fine cigarette companies for false advertising then we should be able to fine health insurance companies for false advertising and politicians too. I think the first amendment protect honest sincere free speech, even if false even if by Nazis but only if the speaker sincerely believes its true, but it doesn't protect "deliberate" prevarication where it can be proved the speaker knew the truth but deliberately avoided the truth, so in my opinion the lies of health insurance and financial investment firms etc, are not protected under the first amendment, furthermore the first amendment should only apply to people and not corporations, in my opinion, how in the world did corporations get the same legal status has people in this country??

Anyway what is your common sense opinion on what I just said above, Joe, do you agree or not?

Free speech is like sinning, God forgives you if you are sincerely sorry which means you change, but God does not forgive you if you just say your sorry but don't change and sin again in the same way, at least according to Jesus.

Free speech isn't free if someone else can decide you are not sincere.

So what is your stance on the first amendment? and corporations having more rights than people since 1886?

Common Sense Joe said...

Why does giving free speech rights to corporations (which represents people: shareholders and workers) mean giving them more rights than people?

dan said...

corporations don't represent the people they represent their owners, whom have no personal responsibility if the corporations they own screw the people, which they do all the time. So why do you want to give these corporations which are just legal entities to make a profit, more rights than people? Shareholders and workers have no say whatsoever in how the corporations operates, unless there are unions or big shareholders, most corporations are run by executives who even if the corporation loses money for its shareholders or goes bankrupt walk away with millions.

Corporations come in all sizes, from single individuals (like mine), to family farms, and small business, to large corporations employing tens of thousands. They represent the owners, the workers, and their customers.

That some corporations allow management to get away with things is a problem. But all organizations have problems.

There is something wrong with the system when we can no longer tell the difference between a person and a corporation, it was much better before when people had rights and corporations could only exist legally if they could demonstrate a clear benefit to the general population, that used to be the law. Now they control the govt. to work against the people. You should watch that video again story of stuff that's how the world works, Joe, is that the world you want?
